Thanks to MAUC and to their lovely staff. Being in an Escalera program was a great experience for me to learn all the things that I was getting into and not feel lost as I entered university.

Annual Lifetime Achievement and Scholarship Awards Gala
At our annual gala we honor organizations and individuals that exemplify the vision and spirit of MAUC’s mission and have dedicated their lives to serving our community. We present The Albert A. Peña, Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award, Community Spirit Award and the Spirit of Education Award.
A Lifetime of Achievement
In 1998, MAUC honored co-founder and retired Judge Albert A. Peña, Jr. with the first Lifetime Achievement Award. At that time, Judge Peña had served our community for almost half a century.
His tenacious spirit, persistence in defending self-evident truths, and promoting economic and social empowerment within the Latino community not only qualified the Judge for this honor, but also personified lifetime achievement in its simplest form. Thus, MAUC established the Albert Peña, Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award.
