The Mexican American Unity Council, Inc. (MAUC) has a firm belief that education is the key to opening doors of opportunity. When faced with today’s staggering statistics related to minority education we must take a proactive role and assume the responsibility.

On September 12, 1998 MAUC was granted a charter by the State Board of Education for grades Pre-Kinder three to fifth grade. La Escuela de Las Americas became operational on October 1, 1998 with an enrollment goal of seventy-five children. In August of 2002 the Mexican American Unity Council, Inc. with the approval of the State Board of Education transferred the charter to La Escuela de Las Américas Public Charter School, Inc. thus establishing a separate entity.

In a bilingual setting the educational program offered at La Escuela is age appropriate and enhances social, intellectual, emotional, and physical development. In order to meet the needs of varying levels of development within a specific age group, the classroom structure/environment is non-traditional in its approach to teaching and the classroom size is capped at 16 students.
